Headphones deprive you of essential everyday wisdom. So do cars. Essentially, anything that distracts you from the nuggets of wisdom that are passed on from person to person on public transport is something you should get rid of.

If you think about it, there is no better place to learn about life than in a claustrophobically, malodorous moving tank.

This is where the true wisdom lies. The one you seek — completely unsolicited, uncomfortable and ultimately invaluable.
